Nominated for Director (1yr. term) Jed is running for the board of directors for the first time. Jed is originally from Paton, Iowa, and has lived in Des Moines since 1992. He graduated from Northern Iowa and is a financial professional.

He and his wife, Deb, live at 3920 Welker Avenue. Jed and Deb have two daughters, Riley(7) and Maddie(2). His hobbies include coaching Riley's youth sports. He also enjoys playing handball and golf.

Jed is interested in helping preserve the neighborhood as a SONA board member. He will bring a youthful perspective to the board and a dedication as an individual with a young family to help keep the neighborhood safe.

Nominated for Secretary (2 yr. term) Holly is an incumbent board member. Holly grew up in Des Moines and is a Roosevelt Hight School graduate(class of 1976). She and her husband, Fritz, lived for several years in Connecticut before returning to Des Moines. Holly was an active member of the Waterbury Neighborhood Board, before moving to the SONA neighborhood. She helped start the landscaping project on Ingersoll Avenue and the home tour in the Waterbury neighborhood.

Holly is both a realtor(in business with her mother, Marg Hull) and an interiror designer for her company, Home Dressings. She is also a Trees Forever board member. Holly and Fritz moved to 4018 Oak Forest Drive in 2005. They have three grown children. One initiative Holl is interest in is to address the issue of preservation of historic houses in the area.

Nominated for Director (2 yr. term) Ashley is an incumbent board member. She has lived in Des Moines for five years, having moved here from Louisiana. Ashley is a retired teacher who is currently pursuing a degree in nursing. She takes most of her coursework at DMACC. Ashley is employed as a hospice worker and is also passionate about colunteering at Mercy Hospice. She and her husband, Kenneth, have two daughters, emma and Havah. Emma attends school at Callanan and Havah attends Greenwood.

Ashley is interesting in founding a welcoming committee to welcome new neighbors to the area. She would like to develop welcoming packets for new neighbors and work with realtors to get the word out on what the neighborhood has to offer. Ashley and her family are active volunteers with SONA's Tonawanda landscaping project.

Nominated for President (2 yr. term) Mark grew up near Terrace Hill and attended Greenwood, Callanan, and Roosevelt. He has Bachelors and Masters degrees from Iowa State University in Architecture. Mark and his wife, Barb, have lived at 125 42nd Street for 33 years. They converted an unassuming 1 ½ story bungalow into a 2 ½ story contemporary.

Mark is senior architect at HLKB Architecture. Some of the projects that he has worked on include: the Des Moines Civic Center, the new downtown Des Moines Library, and the restoration of the Salisbury House.

In addition to home remodeling, he enjoys playing tennis, biking, and cross-country skiing. Mark has been on the SONA board for 3 years as vice-president. He would like to see signage for our neighborhood association, initiate service projects for others, and have more social functions for our members.

Nominated for Vice-President (1 yr. term) John grew up on Oak Forest Drive, attending St. Augustin Catholic School and Dowling High School. Today, he lives at 3803 Brentwood Drive with his wife of 39 years, Nicky. John received his B.A. degree in history from Loras College in Dubuque, and spent several years in the retail clothing business with Bill Reichardt and as the men’s clothing buyer for Younkers.

In 1976, John changed careers to life insurance and investment industry with Northwestern National Life Insurance Co., now known as ING ReliaStar. He currently provides financial and investment services through Schissel Financial Services, and offices out of his home.

He serves on the board of directors for the Central Iowa Chapter of the Society of Financial Professionals and is a member of St. Ambrose Parrish. John and Nicky have two married daughters and four grandchildren. John’s goal is to continue on with the past efforts of the SONA Board.

Carol and her husband, Bill, moved to 110 42nd Street in 2000.  She works for the Department of Human Services in the area of foster care and adoption.  Carol served on the S.O.N.A.Board  as a director in its early days, plus started the newsletter, and edited the first three issues of the neighborhood directory.  Her volunteer commitments also include:  the Salisbury House, the Living History Farms and past treasurer of the Des Moines Neighbors organization.   Her ponds and gardens were featured a couple of years ago on a water garden tour.   Carol has enjoyed being involved as Treasurer and would like the opportunity to serve a second term.

Charlotte and her husband, Van, have lived at 3943 Welker Avenue since 2000.  Charlotte is a nurse practioner in private practice.   Their children are grown and they have two grandchildren in New Jersey.  Charlotte is a member of the DM Rowing club and has been rowing for 24 years.   Charlotte and her husband love this neighborhood and its diversity.   She brings to the Board great organizational skills and a global view but still with attention to details.   Charlotte would like to be more involved with our neighborhood association.
